Chapter one · the single

Mimi makes her JCard.

She opens her laptop on a Sunday afternoon and types jcard.me. Five steps later she has a card she actually wants to share — her name, her hashkafa as a position on a spectrum, two paragraphs in her own voice, and four privacy defaults applied for her without her having to think about them.

The photo lands at on interest. Family at shadchan only. References at shadchan only. She moves none of them. The defaults are tznius enough.

Chapter two · sharing

She shares it with her shadchan.

Mrs. Klein is the only person Mimi shares her full card with. The card has nine fields; she gives Rivky all nine. Her mother gets four. Her aunt gets three. A friend who's redting on the side gets the same three, plus the photo.

On the right side of her screen, a preview shows the card exactly as the selected recipient will see it — nothing more. Every toggle she flips updates that preview instantly. She doesn't have to imagine.

Chapter three · the chevra

Rivky brings it into the room.

The card goes into Rivky's roster. That night she opens the Chevra — the shadchanim's room — and posts that she has a Chabad girl, 24, LA-based, ready. Anonymized as M.L. The room reads it within the hour.

Ruchie in Miami messages her: I think I have someone for her. A name is exchanged. Within a week, Rivky and Ruchie are working a shidduch between two cards.

Chapter four · the family

The Kesslers open the card.

Rivky shares Mimi's card with Mendy's family. They open it in the kitchen on a Thursday night — a paper-and-ink browser page, not a profile, not a swipe. The photo is blurred. The family details are locked. Most of the page is in Mimi's voice.

They like what they read. Chana clicks express interest. The photo unlocks. The family section unlocks. The references unlock. Three things happen at once.

Chapter five · the inbox

Rivky sees it land on her desk.

The next morning, Rivky opens her desk and the inbox is full. The Kessler family at the top: expressed interest on Mimi Lieber, with their note. Below: a question on Sara from another family, a name suggestion on Mimi from Mimi's aunt, an unlock request on Yael.

Mimi sees a quieter version of the same thing on her side. A family expressed interest in you. No name. Rivky handles names.

Chapter six · the pipeline

They date. Rivky moves the card.

Mimi and Mendy meet for the first time in a Brooklyn hotel lobby. By the third date Rivky has dragged them across the pipeline from Redt to Dating to Serious. By the fifth date she's holding her breath.

The pipeline is a kanban. Four columns, drag from one to the next. The engaged column is gold. Mimi and Mendy sit in Serious, with a small marker that says star, because Rivky is starting to know.

Chapter seven · mazel tov

And then, at last.

They came back from the fifth date and Mimi's mother called Rivky before she called anyone else. Two days later Mendy asked, and Mimi said yes. The Mazel Tov page was published the next morning — private to the families, shared with the chevra — with Rivky's first-person story of how the shidduch came together, and a wall for the people who'd been waiting to sign.

JCard's job was done.

"With deepest gratitude to the Aibishter, we are honored to announce the engagement of Mushka Lieber to Menachem Mendel Kessler — with much joy from both families."

Now read why we built it this way.

The story above is what JCard does. The essay below is the thinking behind every decision — the privacy model, the fee model, what JCard refuses to be, and the covenant we are putting in writing.
